Band members Richard and Fred Young lost their father just three days before heading into the studio to record <i>On Safari, <\/i>causing the Headhunters to pour even more emotion into the record, which they have dedicated to the memory of their father.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Coming off the heels of their first-ever European tour, The Kentucky Headhunters are reinventing themselves yet again for their 12th studio album, drawing inspiration from their recent travels across the pond. The band credits Richard Young\u2019s son, John Fred, and his bandmates of Black Stone Cherry for pushing them out of their comfort zone to make the trek overseas, where many of the Headhunters\u2019 rock influences call home.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">\u201cWhat makes you weak, makes you stronger,\u201d says rhythm guitar player and vocalist Richard Young of the band\u2019s experiences together in 2016.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">That quote seems to be the theme for <i>On Safari,<\/i> and southern rock fans can be certain of a strong showing by the GRAMMY award-winning group. With a GRAMMY\u00ae Award, two Top 10 charting albums, four consecutive Top 40 hits and countless other honors, The \u201cHeads\u201d are credited for creating a unique blend of honky-tonk, blues, and southern rock that appeals to the toughest music critics and listeners of all kinds. Getting their start in 1968, brothers Fred and Richard Young and cousins Greg Martin and Anthony Kenney, from Edmonton, Kentucky, formed Itchy Brother, which later morphed into The Kentucky Headhunters after Kenney departed and Doug Phelps joined the band. Their first album, <i>Pickin\u2019 On Nashville<\/i>, (1989), surprised the world when it became a major success, selling over two million copies. Their 2015 release <i>Meet Me in Bluesland<\/i>, included the last vocals ever recorded of the late, great pianist Johnnie Johnson \u2014 Rock N Roll Hall of Famer and legendary keyboardist for Chuck Berry. The album reached the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Blues Album chart the week of its debut. It also garnered top placement on the Billboard Americana Chart. The band\u2019s forthcoming Fall 2016 release <i>On Safari<\/i> is a southern rock album that tips the hat to family and the southern way of life.
