Whoa, wtf, did I just quote Matthew McConaughey?!? Yeah, I guess I did. The above line, from his commencement speech to University of Houston graduates last May, may not be Shakespearean but it is true, mostly. While life can dish out its share of cruelties, occasionally things go the right way. Specifically, I am thinking of The Browns’ induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame this past Sunday. Richly deserved and long overdue, it was very satisfying to see it happen.
Sadly, Jim Ed Brown passed away in June, four months before the induction ceremony. However, you may recall from past Missives that the Hall performed a special hospital bedside ceremony to induct Jim Ed and give him his Medallion before he left. Last Sunday, his sisters and fellow Browns members Maxine and Bonnie got theirs. We offer our hearty congratulations to The Browns on the honor and we know that somewhere, three bells are ringing loudly. Or, as Matthew might say, “Awright, awright, awright!

Audiotree session, which is live NOW! If you ever wondered why I blather on and on about this band, WATCH THE SESSION. If you are a hardcore BG fan, WATCH THE SESSION. The opportunity to watch a band on the rise and in full command of their talent is rare, so CARPE DIEM, baby! (Sorry, I went a bit McConaughey there.)
The band has two BLOWOUT HALLOWEEN SHOWS coming up: tonight (10/30) at The Basement East/Nashville and Saturday (10/31) at Smith’s Olde Bar/Atlanta. No trick, get yer candy asses out to see this amazing live ensemble! (Whoops, there I go, channeling Matthew again.) Seriously, Smith’s, an Atlanta music institution for over 20 years, may soon be forced from its location. That would suck (see McConaughey quote above).
Meanwhile, The Ghost Wolves, currently touring Europe, had a close call in Florence, Italy, when they got stuck in a tunnel. I’ll let them describe it:

Ah, Florence, where all the cops dress like extras from The Wild One, apparently.

Peter Noone’s John Lennon tribute, “I Can’t Imagine,” continues to get garner great press. Give it a listen and you’ll be into something good! (Don’t blame Matthew, that one was mine.)
